Pic(k) of the week 45: NOT PAID TO PUZZLE - Drone Street Photography

I've often stated that one can use any camera to do Street Photography; a camera phone, DSLR, mirrorless, medium format... Just pick the right one for the job!

But what about using a drone for street photography? Just outside my villa compound in Dubai, I noticed something that would be great as a street photo but didn't really work from ground level. Taking the drone up for a quick shot was the solution!

As with most of my street photography, I always try and create more questions than provide the viewer with answers. Well, this one might need a bit of explanation and will probably be better understood by people living in the area. Although, Belgians will easily understand as well...

It seems quite common here in the Gulf for pavements and streets to be broken up, soon after they are finished. Such was the case in the scene below but once the work was completed, the removed stones were  not put in their original places, making for an interesting broken wheelchair! "Not paid to puzzle" came to mind.

Occasionally, I'm asked if street photography needs to have people in the image? Well first there is no official definition on what a street photo really is! For me it is a preferably candid moment of human life in a public space. Clearly human kind didn't work to the best of its capabilities in the image here! And well, it is a photo of a "Street"! How can this not be a Street photo!

I've recently discovered the work of German photographer David Helbich, living in Belgium. He is the one behind "Belgian Solutions". A collection of images where the one above would fit in quite well! Check out David's photo-books here!
