Pic(k) of the week 15: LOCKDOWN PORTRAIT - Fujifilm GFX50R and GF45-100 f4 lens
Even in times of the worldwide Covid-19 outbreak, photography still plays a big role in my daily "lockdown" life.
In the UAE and more specifically Dubai, we are pretty much in a full lock down now; only allowed to go out for essential grocery/medical shopping after pre-approval through an online application; only one person can leave the house. Masks and gloves need to be worn when leaving the house. A government decision I fully support. The relatively low numbers of Covid-19 cases is largely because of the prompt reaction of the local health authorities and the high amount of Covid-19 testing. Thank you!
Like for most airline pilots, the flying job has come to a halt as well. Let's hope we can start flying again soon, as the aviation industry will be likely be highly affected when we come out of this on the other end.
Back to photography... Since the lockdown I've worked on a variety of projects that had been on the back burner for some time.
The most time consuming has been working on a self-published book about the last 10 years of my Aviation Photography titled "Focus on the world below". I'm hopeful that the first test print edition will be done somewhere next month. More later on this blog and social media.
"Left behind" is a personal project that documents things people leave behind thinking others will be cleaning up behind them. Yesterday, I launched a 2 min video presentation of the project. Click here for more. The project has been entirely shot on the Fujifilm X-100V.
I've also been busy testing some new photo equipment from Fujifilm. Unfortunately I had planned to take the Fujifilm GFX50R with the new GF 45-100 lens out for some more landscape photography. Needless to say this can't be done for the time being. I did however play around with some portraits. A fly screen has been an interesting foreground to give the image a "lockdown" feel. The image below is a combination of both a self-portrait and a similar image I shot of my wife with the new lens.
Image details:
- Fujifilm GFX 50R with GF 45-100 f4 lens
- ISO160, 1/40s, f11, 100mm
- Lightroom CC for RAW development
- Lightroom CC with "print module" to combine both images
The Medium format Fujifilm GFX system is known for its 3D look of the images; something that comes even out more with the self-made butterfly mounted on the screen.
If any of the readers work as medical professionals, thanks for your hard work these days, it it sincerely appreciated. The world would be much worst off without you!
