Pic(k) of the week 29: F.A.D.E.D. - Where Urban decay meets Art
Over the last year, I've started using Lightroom Collections much more frequently, in order to group images together. Doing so, allowed me to see new Projects grow in a very organic way, often without actively realizing it for quite some time.
It was two years ago that I shot an image of an advertising sticker (click here) that started falling apart due to the extreme summer heat. As the image has always been visually appealing to me, I started shooting similar images and eventually grouped them together in a LR collection called, "FADED".
Once the collection started having about 40 different images, it was the moment to publish my next Personal project, called F.A.D.E.D. - Where urban decay meets Art!
One of the last images I shot was of a truck in a Dubai industrial area. The sides of older trucks are often great for this type of work. It probably makes you wonder what you are looking at? Some might see the eye of a fish, others a bee. The beauty of a great image is where it creates more questions that it provides the viewer with answers. For me the image below ticks all the boxes!
It is remarkable how much 3D feel there is in the image. Almost like a painting. A perfect candidate to make it into an aluminium di-bond fine-art print.
- Fujifilm X-E4 with XF18 f1.4 lens
- 1/850s, f8, ISO160
- Classic Negative Film Simulation in camera
- DxO ColorEfex Pro4 with Color Contrast filter for optimal contrast
I can't highlight enough the importance of doing Personal projects. They are the ultimate boost for your creativity and give you a purpose whenever you go out with a camera.
Some Projects come to a natural close after a certain time span. F.A.D.E.D. will likely go on for a little longer, as I'll try and find more interesting pieces of "Art Decay" during the summer months.
