Pic(k) of the week 4: SUNSET CAMEL WALK - Fujifilm X-E4 and XF70-300 lens
Today has been a big day with announcements of new Fujifilm gear in the latest Fujifilm Summit! Two of them I started testing last week; the new Fujifilm X-E4 camera and the XF 70-300 lens. Typically one would probably not use such a long lens on such a small and compact camera, but it obviously works; especially with the optionally provided thumb rest and hand grip!
While it is too early for a full review of both items, I do want to share an image I shot earlier this week with this combo as my Pic(k) of the week.
One of my favorite places to test longer lenses is the Al Marmoon camel race track in Dubai. As the winter racing season has started, there was a quite a bit of activity the evening I was there. I've been looking for a place to shoot camel silhouettes for quite a while and have finally found a good one at the race track.
The actual shooting of silhouettes is relatively easy. If shooting moving subjects, use a CH (Continuous High speed) drive mode in order to get a frame with good separation between subjects and a nice natural position of the legs. This of course applies to both humans and animals. A silhouette obviously needs to be close to black, but I normally like to have a little bit of detail in part of the shadows.
In the image below, I like the added visual value of the mosque at the bottom right, giving it a sense of place.
