Pic(k) of the week 32: AERIAL HOT AIR BALLOON PHOTOGRAPHY - FUJIFILM X-T4
Earlier in the week, I took another hot air balloon flight over Belgium. Although one has virtually no control on the direction of flight as a balloon obviously goes where the wind takes you, I’ve found it an interesting aerial photography platform. Limited changes of direction can be made by varying the altitude as the wind is often slightly different depending on the altitude but for me the main attraction of such a flight is the fact that one doesn’t really know where one will end up and what will be seen.
Typically a hot air balloon flight can be guess what? Quite “hot”! The powerful gas burners that periodically have to heat up the balloon envelop above, also spread a lot of this heat with its pilot and passengers below. Beside, since one goes with the wind, you do not feel any wind while flying.
One of the images that stood out was the one below where three elements play of each other; the balloon shadow, small building and the farmers harvesting the field.
Image details:
- Fujifilm X-T4 with the XF18-135 lens
- 1/500s, f9, ISO250, 93mm focal length
- Straight Out Of Camera (SOOC) using Provia Film Simulation
I’m presently test shooting the Fujifilm X-T4; love the quiet shutter and the IBIS. Not 100% convinced of the flip LCD screen for my type of shooting.
