Pic(k) of the week 37: STEPS TO NOWHERE, Dubai - Fujifilm GFX50SII & GF35-70

As discussed in last week's Pic(k) blogpost, I'm presently test shooting the new  "Larger than full frame" Fujifilm GFX50SII. A few days back, I also received the new GF 35-70 lens; the smallest and lightest zoom lens in the GF lens line-up.  

Offering a 35mm equivalent focal range of 28-55mm, it is marketed as a lightweight (370g) travel and everyday walk around lens. Its retractable design is unique as before using it, one needs to rotate the zoom ring to a small detent, which coincides with the 35mm focal length. Although it takes some time to fully adapt to this, it makes the lens very portable as it collapses to a length of only 74mm (2.9"). We have come a long way when it comes to medium format zoom lenses.

The Meydan Racetrack in Dubai, has a few large parking lots. When these were built just over 10 years ago, there must have been an expansion plan for a second floor. parking, as they all have a series of concrete steps that take you to "nowhere". 

The steps remind me of the work of Dutch artist Escher, whose steps are going nowhere as well. At least these ones do actually exist.

In the image above, I framed the Burj Khalifa (Worlds highest tower), as the only building that can be seen on the Dubai skyline. It is part of an ongoing series called: "It is lonely at the top". Click here to check it out.
