Pic(k) of the week 26: A FRESH LOOK AT THE AIRBUS A380
Some of you probably know that I fly the Airbus A380 for a living; the worlds largest passenger aircraft. With a maximum seat capacity of over 500 people the aircraft has been in the news quite a bit during the Covid-19 pandemic.
I want to stay away from discussing the economical viability of the aircraft type here, but will say that for me it is hands down the best of any large airliners flying today; both as a pilot (flown more than 10 airliner types to date) and as a passenger!
From the outside the aircraft is often referred to (and I agree), as not being the most esthetically pleasing aircraft. As a photographer, finding new angles makes for an interesting challenge!
The image below was shot during the walk around inspection we as pilots conduct before every flight. It shows some of the probes used to detect icing, measure altitude, speed and a variety of other things.
- Fujifilm X-E4 with XF27mm f2.8 R WR lens (lens review here)
- ISO160, f11, 1/480s
- RAW development in Lightroom Classic
- DxO Silver Efex Pro for Black and White conversion
More of my Airliner aviation photography can be found here.
My thoughts are with the many airline crews all over the world that lost jobs during the pandemic. The sector has clearly been hit as one of the hardest but will come back. Hang in there. People will travel again!
