GALLERY OF THE MONTH DEC 2023: WESTERN CAPE, SOUTH-AFRICA

The last gallery of the month is one from a recent road-trip through the Western Cape in South-Africa.

At least once a year, I try to set off for what I call a "Photo-adventure"; a couple of weeks of pure Travel photography. This year we set off on a 2000km road-trip from Cape Town, South-Africa.

Cape Town on itself, is an amazing city. Granted it has its security issues in some part of town, but being at the ocean with mountains in the background, makes for a perfect starting point.

Bo-Kaap is a neighbourhood known for its brightly colored houses and cobblestoned streets.

Needless to say, one has to go up on the iconic Table mountain, to enjoy the great views from more than 1000m (3300ft) above sea level. Not having the time and energy to hike up the mountain we elected to take the cable lift up.

Leaving Cape Town behind, the trip then headed toward Cape Point and Cape Good Hope. Two iconic places that are known for its history and amazing viewpoints.

One wouldn't expect penguins in South-Africa, but the African penguin, also known as the Cape penguin can only be found in the southern part of South-Africa.

The most Southern point of Africa is at Cape Agulhas which is also where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet.

Like most photo-adventures, I try and take a variety of camera gear and this time my DJI Mavic 2 Pro came in handy for some aerial photography. A shipwreck near Agulhas was my first subject.

The Western Cape province, does have a large variety of Private Game parks. We ended up visiting two; the first being the "Hartenbos Private Game Lodge", where we took two safari drives.

Going further East we spend some time in Knysna and Plettenburg.

The drone came in handy again for some early morning aerials of Knysna.

Leaving the coastline behind us, the trip then went inland towards Buffeldrift; another Private Game reserve, where we did a very early morning Meerkat safari. Waiting for the animals to come out just after sunrise. Quite the experience!

Next we entered the vineyard territory with stays in Mymering, Stellenbosh and finally Franschoek for the last two days off the trip.

The Western Cape road-trip has been one of the more photogenic trips in a while and is highly recommended if interested in Travel photography.

Approaching the end of the year, I wish all readers Happy Holidays!

Merry Christmas and a Happy 2024!
