Pic(k) of the week 17: INDIAN OCEAN SUNSET - FUJIFILM X-S10 #SOOC
There are still a couple of images from my recent island hopping trip to the Seychelles, that I want to share as a Pic(k) of the week. One of the things that stood out during the 8-day photo-adventure were the amazing sunsets on one of the three islands we visited, Mahé, Praslin and La Digue.
The best one was on the first day, staying on the west coast of the main island, Mahé. While having a great sundowner drink, I shot the image below. It is Straight Out Of Camera (no editing), which makes it even more remarkable!
As far as one can see on the western horizon, there are multiple layers of fluffy clouds with a very distinct colour gradient, top to bottom.
- Fujifilm X-S10 with XF 16-55 f2.8 lens
- ISO 400, f9, 1/30s, 49mm focal length
- In Camera Film Simulation "Velvia" with following additional settings:
- Highlights-1, Shadows+1, Colour+1, Sharpness+1, Noise-1
- Straight Out Of Camera (#SOOC), no editing
Notice that the image was shot at a relatively slow shutter speed of 1/30s using a non-image stabilized lens. This is exactly where the IBIS (In Body Image Stabilization) of the camera comes into play. The same image shot on a non-IBIS camera (e.g. X-T3, X-Pro3, X-100...) would likely need to be shot at a higher shutter speed of around 1/100s, resulting in a two stop higher ISO of 1600. The other alternative would of course be using a tripod. Interestingly I brought my tripod but did not end up using it at all.
More images shot on the weeklong Seychelles trip can be found here.
